Let’s face it, its hard to change your life. I mean, you’ve been living the way you are living for your whole life! You are tired of being average, you want to be AWESOME. Sometimes, it is just time for that change. Whether that change be in your nutrition, fitness, or just well being, we have some ideas that can really jump start you in the right direction. Need a little inspiration? A step by step process to improve the quality of you life? Follow these 5 steps:
1.Stop letting others control what you do and how you do it.
This one might seem a little hypocritical considering that is exactly what we are doing, BUT (and there is a big but) it is a lot harder to control what you are doing from a website than it might be if we were right there with you in your dining hall. Speaking of those who are with you in your dining hall, don’t let them decide what you are going to eat! Just because they might laugh at the odd selection of deli meats or the size of the salad you have on your plate doesn’t mean you are not in the right. You have just as much of a right to eat whatever you please as they do! Instead of getting embarrassed, learn how to ignore the peer pressure and instead, teach your friends why it is that you are eating what you are eating. Same thing goes with what you do at the gym.
2. Spend a little more, worry a little less
The Dalai Lama has said that the greatest surprise about life is that man spends all of his health to get money and then spends all his money to regain health. Paying for your health now will limit the number of doctors appointments, medicines, surgeries, etc that you will have to pay for in your later life. Sometimes, you will have to make sacrifices, and those sacrifices might be quality over quantity. What kinds of things can you spend your money on while you are in college or on a college meal plan? These kinds of foods. Buy high quality food for your dorm room like grass fed beef jerky, dark chocolate, grass fed butter, etc. Buy higher quality supplements such as a little primal fuel and some probiotics. Spending a little more on higher quality foods should not make you worry about your money! Replace buying alcohol and drugs with some high quality grass fed beef jerky!
3. Do things (anything) outside more often
Study, play or just read a book out in the sun! Vitamin D deficiencies cause depression, which you don’t want. Plus, being outside is just generally more fun. I am no scientist but being outside definitely lightens peoples mood. Hell if it were up to me, all my courses would hold class outside I am willing to bet people would get better grades.
4. Pick a Hobby
Feeling like you are a part of something bigger than yourself gives you purpose. Whether that hobby is crossfit, drawling, sports, music, etc. make sure you really engage yourself with it. DO NOT BE PASSIVE!! Get out there and get somethings started! There is not sense in sitting around watching TV and playing video games all the time! Find something you like and roll with it. You will be happy!
5. Surround yourself with like minded people
This is probably the most important step to change your life. If you want to be a happy and healthy person, don’t go hang out with people who are pissed off and complaining all the time! Go join a club where people care about things that you care about! For example, you could join a paleo club and if there isn’t one, then start it yourself! Or you could join an environmental club where you know people will care about the earth like you do. Doing this also requires being proactive about your situation. If you really feel like you are in a bad group of friends, there is no shame in leaving them for a new group! It’s not even that hard to do in college because you can pretty much do anything. If you want a new group of friends all you have to do is go online, find a club with similar interests as you, and go to the meetings! You will meet the people who will make you a better person.
While these steps are all nice to read online, it is really going to take your doing to change your life. There is not a magic single thing that you can do besides just go out there and do it. Start a blog (and tell us about it!), join a club, spend a little more, worry a little less, eat real whole foods, get plenty of sleep, good exercise, and exude love, happiness and friendship to EVERYONE who you meet. It is the only way you will be able to change for the better.
